Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is a perennial culinary and medicinal herb that belongs to the mint (Lamiaceae) family, along with basil, beebalm, giant hyssop, ground ivy, lavender, marjoram, oregano,  perilla, rosemary, sage, savory, skullcap, spearmint, and wild bergamot.
